Hi Tsuga Fans,
Well the team is on their way to Dawson, about 200
miles of trail. After Mike left Pelly Crossing, I
cleaned up, repacked the sled, and drove the 3 1/2
hours to Dawson. I got to pick our camp sites
this year and last night I dropped off all the camp
gear and headed over to the hotel to drop the dogs
on the truck and start gear drying (makes the room
smell real good). I got 6 hours of sleep in a
nice warm bed. Today was spent setting up the camp
for the dogs 36 hour layover. Some things are hard
to do by yourself, but I managed to set it up just
fine. I'm not sure when Mike will be arriving
into Dawson but once he is in we will be pretty
busy. We will take care of the dogs and put them
to bed in a giant pile of straw. As I was spreading
4 bales of straw I could just imagine how much fun
it is
going to be to pick it all back up. Mike will then
go to the hotel to get a very needed sleep and
shower. Then ever 10 hours we will feed, run and
love the dogs.
Update on the dogs I have on the truck. Mugs is
going better. I think without the fluids she
received, I could have been dealing with a much
worse situation. Her shoulder is still sore and I
have been giving her lots of shoulder rubs and she
rode in the front seat of the truck. Zirkle is doing
great but didn't like having to share the truck with
Mugs. Curly's wrists are still a little sore, but
overall is good. Gecko is just wild from sitting
in the dogs box with not
much to do. Reba is sore in the front and in the
rear. She is eating good, but is missing the
sparkle in her eye. I think she really misses
Mike. It was hard for Mike to leave her too.
As part of a medical study we are involved with,
Curly and Reba had some blood drawn and a muscle
biopsy. They didn't feel a thing. Mike is
feeling much better. He ate two meals in Pelly.
Mike dropped Jim in Scroggie :( I'm sure Mike is
pretty bummer about not having Big Jim with him.
Jim got flown to Dawson and I picked him up from the
vets. He was very happy to see me, but was
also whining to be with Mike and the team. Although
he is sore in the
shoulder, he is resting well and will get plenty of
massages and food. The fun begins tomorrow when the
team arrives into Dawson. Mike has to stay here for
37 hours and 15 minutes (36 hour mandatory and 1
hour 15 minutes for start differentials) Moe just
arrived here and she is ready to get busy. I'm am
so glad to be able to spend some time with Moe and
her dog skills will be a real benefit to Team Tsuga.
Thanks for living this dream with us.
